My VCR ate the finale of Are You Afraid of the Dark and I sat there frozen for a good 30 seconds
Back in 1995 I was at my grandma's house in Rochester and she had the one VCR in the family, so every Saturday night I'd tape the Midnight Society and watch it Sunday morning with a bowl of Cheerios. The night of the big finale my cousin bumped the tape in halfway through the taping and it started recording over my sister's copy of The Lion King instead. I didn't find out until Sunday when the screen went blue right as the story was getting good, and I just sat on the carpet staring at the blinking 12:00 like it was my fault. I tried to fix it by fast forwarding and rewinding, which obviously made it worse, and my grandma said "you kids and your tapes" and went back to her crossword. So here's the debate: is a taped episode ruined by a 5 second glitch still worth watching, or do you just wait for the summer rerun and hope it comes back? My sister says any tape is better than nothing, my cousin says a messed up tape is a cursed object and should be thrown out. What did you all do when the recording failed, did you rewatch the busted version or toss it?

Gotta disagree about taping over Lion King being the real loss here, that finale matters more lol. Rewatching a busted tape is torture because you know exactly where the glitch hits and you just sit there dreading it. My move was always record the rerun over the bad copy, problem solved, no cursed object needed. Your sister's right that any tape beats nothing, but a 5 second glitch turns into 5 minutes of you fiddling with tracking buttons instead of watching the show.
