Showerthought: I gave up on long naps after seeing my 20 minute vs 90 minute afternoons side by side
For years I swore by a full 90 minute nap on Saturdays, and I would wake up groggy and cranky for a good half hour afterward. Then about 3 weeks ago I started setting my alarm for 20 minutes flat after lunch, and I kept a little note on my phone of how I felt each time. The short naps won by a mile, I was up and moving right away instead of sitting there foggy. Something about staying in the light part of sleep seems to be the whole trick. Anyone else messed with the 20 minute thing, and do you count the time it takes to fall asleep in that number or start the clock once you're out?
Count the falling asleep time. I set my alarm for 25 minutes so I get a few minutes to drift and still land around 20 of actual sleep. Hitting that light sleep window is the whole game, once you drop into deep sleep past 30 minutes the grogginess is brutal.
