The AI skeptic in my EMT class was the one who got me off cloud chatbots for good
So a guy in my EMT recert class in Boise last spring kept going on about how you should never put anything personal into an AI chatbot, and I kind of rolled my eyes at him at first. He works at a small clinic and kept saying that the hosted chat tools remember what you type and that most people never go into the settings to turn any of that off. I ignored him for about two months, kept pasting patient info and shift notes into a browser chatbot because it was fast and easy. Then one of my old prompts popped back up in the chat history while a coworker was looking over my shoulder, and it had a name and a room number in it, and my stomach just dropped. After that I switched to a local model on an old laptop in my office, nothing fancy, and honestly it is slower but at least nothing leaves the machine. I still use the online ones now and then but I scrub everything first, and I set the history to auto-delete. Has anyone else here had a near miss like that with the chat memory, and if so what did you change after?
