Pro tip: a diner in Akron preheats its air fryer for 8 minutes, and now I'm questioning everything
Stopped at a diner outside Akron last month and the cook showed me their setup. They run 8 minutes of preheat on a 5.8 quart basket before anything goes in, even frozen fries. I've always just tossed food in cold and let it ride, and now I'm not sure who's right. Their fries came out way crispier than mine, but that's 8 minutes of empty running on a 1500 watt machine. One side says preheat is the whole game for crisp. The other says it just burns power and you can just tack 2 minutes onto the cook time. So which is it, does preheat actually matter or am I chasing a myth?
