My part labeling habit cut reassembly time in half
I used to just lay parts out. Now I tag each one with a number. It makes the job much easier and faster.

My neighbor just numbered every bolt on his lawnmower carburetor rebuild. It was a ten piece job. For most people taking apart a coffee maker or a desk fan, just laying parts in order works fine. I doubt many home jobs are complex enough to need a full tagging system. If you're doing serious engine work, you probably already have a parts tray or a better method.

Once labeled every part from a desk fan rebuild and still ended up with a spare screw. So much for my system.

Read about a guy who used painter's tape and a marker for engine parts? He swore it saved his project. Saw a video where someone labeled every piece from a old clock. Made it look easy. For me, even with a coffee maker, a few tags help. Stops the panic when you have extra bits. Maybe overkill for some, but why not be sure.
