That 2 AM false alarm call from a panel I installed 3 years ago
Last Tuesday I got dragged out of bed for a false trip on a system I put in back in 2021, turned out the homeowner's new wifi router was sitting right on top of the motion sensor and messing with it. Anyone else had customers clutter up a sensor location and blame the gear instead of the setup?
New wifi router sitting right on top of the motion sensor" is a CLASSIC move. People treat those things like a shelf, they stack mail, boxes, whatever right in the beam path. I had one customer put a swaying ceiling fan pull chain right in front of a detector, took me three visits to figure out why it would randomly trip at night. I finally just started telling homeowners to keep a clear zone around the sensor, like a foot of open space, and to tell me about any NEW electronics they plug in near it. They still blame the panel, but at least now I can ask "what changed since Tuesday" before I even grab my meter.
