Upgraded my panel firmware on a hunch, turned out the old version was the problem
Had a customer in Dayton with a Vista panel that kept false alarming on zone 3 every Tuesday night around 2 AM. Logged into the dealer portal and saw the firmware was from 2014. I figured it was a stretch but I flashed the newest version anyway since I was already there. That was 5 weeks ago and no false alarms since. Turns out the old firmware had a known issue with voltage dips on the zone loop. I used to skip firmware updates unless tech support told me to. Now I check the version on every old panel I touch. Anyone else run into a weird intermittent issue that was just outdated firmware?

Every Tuesday at 2 AM like clockwork, that panel was basically running its own little weekly meeting and nobody else got the invite. Honestly that zone 3 loop was probably sitting there doing voltage math with a 2014 calculator, no wonder it kept flunking the test. Flashing new firmware fixed it and all it took was one bored tech with a hunch, which is pretty much how half the fixes in this trade get discovered. Next thing you know you'll be updating firmware on panels just to feel something on a slow Tuesday.
