After 8 years I learned I was setting my thermostat wrong

My electric bill hit $280 last July and I couldn't figure out why. A neighbor mentioned she keeps her AC at 78 during the day and I was shocked because I had mine set to 68. Turns out the unit never cycles off at that temp and runs nonstop. Has anyone else made this mistake with their HVAC?

My buddy Mike moved into his first house last summer and cranked the AC to 62 every day. He thought more cold meant faster cooling. Power bill hit $350 and his unit froze over one night. A repair guy came out and told him the same thing your neighbor said. He was livid because nobody ever told him that before. He runs it at 76 now and says the house still feels fine.

$350 is just brutal man. It's like nobody tells you this stuff until you already mess it up. I notice that with a lot of things in life actually, how we just assume something works one way and then find out the hard way it's totally different.
