My Portra shots came back flat and dull for 3 months straight, then I swapped labs and the same roll popped
I shot the same roll of Portra 400 side by side in my Pentax K1000, sent one to the cheap lab I'd used for 2 years and one to a smaller shop 40 minutes away that charges $6 more per roll, and the difference was night and day, the cheap lab's scans looked gray and washed out while the other one had real color and depth. I kept blaming my meter and my lenses for months, but turns out the cheap lab was just running old chemistry and auto scans with no correction. So here's my question: do you all think paying more for a good lab is worth it every time, or is it smarter to stay cheap and fix everything yourself in post?
