My friend kept calling every slow episode "filler" and I finally snapped at him about it
So my buddy Dan and I were rewatching a show at my place in Baltimore last week, and every single time an episode slowed down to just let the characters breathe, he'd pause it and go "bro this is filler, skip it." I asked him what he thought filler even was, and he said "anything that's not the main plot." That's just not what the word means. Filler is content made to pad out an anime so the studio doesn't catch up to the manga, like those 12 episodes of original stuff they jammed into some long runners back in the day. A quiet episode where two side characters just talk and we learn why they act the way they do? That's not filler, that's the actual show doing its job. I pulled up the episode list and showed him the canon stuff and he got quiet. It bugs me because people throw the word around and then skip stuff that later gets referenced in the finale. Do you all actually check if something's filler before skipping, or do you just trust a random list online?
