The "torn" part is real because your brain already locked in the sub voices on that first watch, so the dub can never just be a dub, it's a comparison test you can't turn off. Give it a full arc though and that fades, since the dub folks are doing their own take on the same lines rather than copying the sub, and some of those quiet moments land just as hard. So maybe the answer is neither version wins, it just comes down to which one you saw first.
