Shoutout to the drain pump that quit mid wash on a Tuesday
Last Tuesday I was in a customer's basement in Akron swapping a leaky inlet hose on her washer when I heard the drain cycle start gargling and then just stop. I pulled the pump filter and found a nickel, a bobby pin, and what I'm pretty sure was part of a bra underwire jammed in the impeller. Problem was I'd already drained the tub halfway and the pump wouldn't spin loose with the impeller stuck, so I had to pull the whole pump off at 5pm with laundry water still sitting in the drum. I ran a shop vac through the tub to get the standing water out first, which took a good 15 minutes and a wet vac hose I had to rinse out after. Got the pump out, cleared the junk, spun the impeller by hand to make sure it was free, and she kicked right back on. Whole thing ran me an extra 40 minutes and the lady slipped me a $20 tip for staying late. Has anyone found a faster way to empty a full tub when the pump is dead and the drain hose is too short to reach a floor drain?
