Switched from climbing spikes to a rope wrench on prune jobs and my knees thank me
Did 14 removals and prunes over in Spokane last summer wearing gaffs on everything like an idiot, but after a buddy let me try his rope wrench setup on a big silver maple in August I haven't touched the spikes for pruning since, and honestly I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner, so what's the one piece of gear you wish you'd tried way earlier?
Gaffs on prune jobs is pretty standard in a lot of outfits and nobody's knees fall off over it, so I'm not sold that the wrench is some huge upgrade for your body. It's a nice tool and all, but a lot of this comes down to how much time you spend spiked up versus how you move in the tree. What actually made the difference for you, the tool or just not gaffing out on every little prune cut?
