Spent 11 hours over 3 nights last week trying to stack Andromeda shots in DeepSkyStacker
I shot 240 frames of M31 from my driveway in Boise on a clear Tuesday, but half kept getting rejected for star trails and I could not figure out why until I checked my polar alignment. Turns out my tripod was slowly sinking into the soft ground next to the flower bed, so the whole night was drifting a tiny bit frame by frame. Do you all bring something to put under the tripod legs for long sessions, or do you just find pavement and call it good?

Been there with the sinking tripod thing, and it is the worst because you do not notice until you stack and see the drift. Tennis balls with holes cut in them work in a pinch, or those little plastic furniture cups you can get for a few bucks. A lot of folks use paver stones or a scrap of plywood under each leg, and some folks even mark the spots so they can set up the same way every time. Soft ground after rain is brutal for this, so if your driveway spot is on dirt or near a garden bed, putting something solid down first will save you a whole night of rejected subs.
