Picked between that little bookstore on North Highland and the big chain, and I'm still second guessing it
So back around 2019 I used to live right off North Highland in Atlanta, and every weekend I had this same small battle with myself. There was this tiny used bookstore a short walk away, packed to the ceiling, the owner knew my name, and a chain store over in the suburbs with cheap parking and a coffee bar. I picked the little shop almost every time, spent maybe $15 a trip on beat up paperbacks, and honestly half of them were duds. But the owner would pull stuff off the shelf and say "you'll like this one" and he was right more often than not. When the shop closed in 2022 I realized I had a whole shelf of books that chain store never would have handed me. My friend keeps saying I wasted money on books I could've gotten used online for $4 with free shipping. Was I dumb to keep paying full price just to keep a local place alive, or would you have done the same?

$15 a trip and a guy who knew your taste beats a $4 used copy every single time. My local spot closed in 2021 and I'm still salty about it, because no website ever handed me something weird and said give this one a shot. Free shipping can't do that. You weren't dumb, you were paying for the part that actually mattered.
