Showerthought: the 3-week paper route map beat my phone's GPS for actually learning my own neighborhood
I moved to Decatur in January and spent two weeks letting my phone route me around, and I still couldn't tell you where the nearest bakery was. So I printed out a plain map at the library on a Tuesday and marked every house on my route by hand for three weeks, and now I can point toward the post office without thinking. The difference was weird: the app got me there fast, but the paper map made me actually look around, which is how I found the taco place on Ponce and the shortcut behind the church. Same neighborhood, totally different brain work. Has anyone else tried going old-school with a paper map around here, and did it stick or did you go back to the app after a week?
