PSA: pull the pan before you trust the drain plug on a used car
Bought a 2011 Civic with 98k miles at a small lot in Dayton and almost skipped my usual look underneath because the plug looked dry and clean. Pulled the pan anyway and found the plug threads were wrapped in Teflon tape and RTV, so I walked. What is the one check you always do on a used car before money changes hands?

Ugh, been there! Bought a Corolla years back and the plug looked fine, but when my buddy put a wrench on it the whole thing just spun. Turns out someone had stripped it and jammed a bigger bolt in with JB Weld. Now I always bring a socket and crack the drain plug loose before I hand over any cash, takes two seconds and saves you a whole engine.
