GPS routes made me lazy, then a ridge in Glacier proved it
I was talking to an old trail crew guy at a shelter near Logan Pass last week, he said he never trusts a downloaded track over his own compass and paper map. He watched me stare at my phone for 10 minutes trying to find a cutoff that was 200 feet away, and he just pointed at the cairn. I get that GPS saves time, but when the battery dies or the route is wrong, who actually knows where they are going without it, has anyone else ditched the screen for a real map on a tough stretch?
