The guy at REI in Flagstaff who told me to hike the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim with only a 1-liter bottle
Last spring a guy at the REI in Flagstaff looked at my pack and told me a 1-liter bottle was plenty for the Bright Angel to North Kaibab run in May. I made it about 4 miles past Phantom Ranch before I ran dry and had to bum water off two hikers near Cottonwood, and it was a rough afternoon. What's your go-to water carry for desert stretches where the next source is 12 miles out?
