Laser disc player from goodwill turned my bad movie night elite
I grabbed a busted looking Pioneer player for $12 at a thrift store in Columbus and figured it was a paperweight. Turns out it just needed a belt swap, cost me $3 for a pack of rubber bands sized wrong and then I ordered the actual belt kit online. The picture quality is soft and the discs have that analog hiss, but honestly it makes awful movies feel like an event. My friends now vote on which terrible 90s action flick we watch because the menu loading glitch takes 40 seconds and we make trivia out of it. The real hack is pairing it with a modern TV via the composite jacks, the imperfections hide bad CGI better than a blu ray remaster does. Anyone else mess with old formats just for the ritual of it?
