I finally got my sourdough to rise, then the loaf pan gave up at 4am
Last Tuesday I pulled an all nighter babysitting my starter after it finally doubled for the first time in 3 weeks. Mixed the dough, shaped it, put it in my grandmother's old glass loaf pan, and set the oven timer for 7am. Woke up to a loud crack around 4am. The pan split right down the middle and raw dough was oozing onto the heating element. Smoke alarms, flour everywhere, and my cat bolted like a rocket. I salvaged about a third of it by scooping it into a metal tin and baking it anyway. It tasted fine, sort of. Maybe glass just isn't meant for overnight proofing at my altitude? Anyone else have a favorite pan fail at the worst possible hour?
