A guy at the Tacoma farmers market told me to stop watering my basil every day and my plants finally stopped dying
Stopped by the Tacoma farmers market two weekends ago and got chatting with this older guy selling herb starts. I mentioned my basil kept turning yellow and dropping leaves on my balcony, and he asked how often I watered it. When I said every morning he just shook his head and said basil roots hate sitting wet, so I should let the top inch of soil go dry first. Started doing that with my 3 pots and two weeks later they're actually bushy instead of sad and leggy. Anyone else kill their herbs with too much love before figuring out the watering schedule?
My basil survived exactly 11 days before I drowned it with the same daily watering routine, so that farmers market guy is a hero. Mine looked like a sad stick for a month before I figured it out.
