Hot take: people are drowning their balcony herbs in too much water

I killed three basil plants in a row last summer before I realized the soil was staying wet for days in those tiny pots. Now I only water when the top inch feels dry and my oregano is actually thriving through July heat. Has anyone else seen more rot than growth from overwatering?

My mint is basically immortal in my yard but the second I put it in a pot it gets all sad and droopy. Had to drill extra holes in the bottom just to keep the roots from rotting out.

Did you try adding pebbles to the bottom of the pot for drainage?
