Hot take: self-watering pots aren't worth the hassle for balcony tomatoes

I spent 3 months fighting with a self-watering pot for my cherry tomatoes before I figured out the wicking system was clogged with algae. The soil stayed too wet and roots rotted out. Who else has ditched the fancy pots and gone back to basic drip trays?

Seems like every product now adds complexity that just creates new problems.

My toaster now needs a firmware update and connects to my wifi. I bought it to make toast not to troubleshoot network issues. Three months ago the app stopped working and the toaster just quit mid cycle. Customer support told me to reinstall the app and pair it again. That stupid toaster cost me 80 bucks and it can't even brown bread without a stable internet connection. We're adding tech to everything and forgetting the basic point of the product.
