Started watering my cherry tomatoes from the bottom instead of the top and now they aren't cracking like before

I noticed the soil was drying out unevenly in my 12-inch pots so I tried putting water in the tray instead of pouring on the leaves and the fruit stopped splitting after 3 weeks, has anyone else seen a difference between top watering and bottom watering for tomatoes?

Makes total sense to me, I've had the same issue with my cherry tomatoes cracking.

Bottom watering probably keeps the fruit from swelling too fast after a rain.
