Unpopular opinion: putting your trash bag down to grab one more cup is how you lose the whole haul
I was at Ocean Beach in San Francisco last Saturday with about 12 other volunteers, and I watched three separate people set their full bags down near the dunes to grab "just one more" bottle, then walk away and forget them. Our crew lead counted 6 abandoned bags at the end of the morning, which is almost a third of what we picked up total. The trick I use is tying the bag to my belt loop with a cheap carabiner so it never touches the sand, and I have not lost a single haul since I started doing it 4 months ago. Does anyone else have a setup that keeps your bag on you, or am I the only one who gets twitchy watching bags get left behind?
