Warning: our group's $80 mesh bag failed on the second trip, so now I'm stuck debating cheap vs fancy
Last Saturday our cleanup crew hit Ocean Beach in San Francisco and about 40 minutes in, the mesh bag we pooled $80 for split right along the seam, dumping maybe 3 pounds of wet trash back onto the sand. I had to crawl around on my knees picking up soggy wrappers while the tide crept in, and honestly it made me question the whole gear thing. Half our group says just grab the cheap $5 laundry bags from the dollar store, because they last a few trips and you don't cry when they blow apart. The other half swears by the heavy duty dive bags with reinforced stitching, saying you save money over a year and don't cut your hands on torn mesh. I get both sides, but after fishing trash out of the surf a second time I'm leaning toward spending more upfront. What I can't figure out is whether the expensive bags actually hold up or if we just got a bad one. Anybody here been through a few seasons and got a real answer on which way to go?
