Can we talk about the makeup counter lady at Marshall Fields who told me to look in a mirror, not at her
I went with my sister to get her makeup done before her wedding back in 2018, and the woman doing it was this older lady named Dolores who had been at that counter off and on since the 80s. My sister kept asking her things like should I do the eyeliner thicker and does this lip work, and Dolores finally put the brush down and said look at your own face in the mirror, not mine, I'm not the one getting hitched. My sister did it and you could see her actually study her own face for the first time all day instead of checking everybody's reaction. I've thought about that a lot since, because I do the same thing when I get a haircut, I watch the barber's face to see if he likes it instead of just looking at myself in the glass. It's a small thing but it stuck with me, Dolores was basically telling her to trust her own eyes. Wondering if anyone else had a beauty person say something blunt like that, and did it help or just annoy you at the time?
