Hot take: my colorist told me to stop washing my hair after workouts and I thought she was nuts
So my colorist Renee, who I've been going to for like 4 years at a salon over on Southport, said something to me back in March that I honestly brushed off at first. I was in for a trim and complained that my highlights were fading so fast, maybe 3 weeks in, and she asked how often I wash. I said pretty much every day after the gym, and she just shook her head and said the sweat isn't what's wrecking my color, it's the shampoo every single time. She told me to just rinse with water after a workout and only shampoo twice a week, and I sat there thinking there's no way I'm walking around with greasy hair. But I tried it for like 6 weeks and my color actually held up way longer, plus my scalp stopped feeling so tight and itchy. The weird part is it only took about 2 weeks for my hair to stop going oily on day 2, which I did not expect at all. Now I keep a wide tooth comb in my gym bag and just rinse and go, and honestly my ends look less fried too. Has anyone else's stylist pushed the no shampoo thing and did it stick for you, or did you go back to daily washing?
