I've been greasing pedal threads with the wrong tool for a decade

A new guy in the shop watched me use a 6-inch crescent wrench and just said, 'You know a proper pedal wrench is like twelve bucks, right?' Anyone else have a basic tool they avoided buying for way too long?

Lol, my version of that was using a butter knife as a flathead screwdriver for years. Felt like a genius until I finally bought a real one.

My kitchen drawer had three butter knives permanently bent from that exact move.

Wait, you actually bent three butter knives? How much force were you using on those screws? I can see maybe messing up one knife if you really cranked it, but three sounds like you were fighting some serious hardware. What were you even trying to fix that needed that much muscle?
