The 3am brake bleed that made me eat crow on hydraulic vs cable

I was in my garage in Austin last Tuesday, bleeding a customer's Shimano brakes for the 5th time that month because the lever kept going spongy, and when I finally felt that firm bite at 3am I realized the real issue was me rushing the gravity bleed, so now I take my sweet time and let the fluid drip for 20 minutes, has anyone else found that slow and patient beats fancy bleeding kits?
