Burned through 40 pounds of coal in one day last week and finally figured out why
Had a rough Tuesday where I went through my whole coal bucket in about 6 hours making a set of tongs, way more than the usual 15 pounds. Turns out I left the ash dump open a crack after cleaning the firepot, so it was drafting hot air straight up the chimney and I just kept feeding it. Shut that little door all the way on Wednesday and did the same forge work on 12 pounds with heat to spare. Has anyone else chased a coal hog and found it was just one small air leak messing with you?
