I finally figured out why my donut tutorial icing looked so bad, it was one dumb setting
I did the famous Blender donut tutorial back in January and my icing came out looking like a lumpy rock while the video's looked perfectly smooth. After redoing that whole section three times I zoomed in and noticed my icing had way fewer faces than it should, because I never bumped up the subdivision level before adding the shrinkwrap. Setting it to 3 instead of 1 changed everything and the drip finally looked right in about 10 seconds of work. I think a lot of people just copy the clicks without checking the modifier numbers, so the shape never gets enough geometry to bend smoothly. Did any of you run into this on your first donut, or am I the only one who missed it?
