I kept scaling my first donut model in Object Mode and wondered why the bevels looked so bad
For my first two weeks in Blender I was building everything in Object Mode and hitting S to resize stuff, because that felt like the normal thing to do. Then I tried modeling a coffee mug and the bevel on the rim kept looking stretched and weird no matter what numbers I typed in. I must have redone that mug 5 times and even posted a screenshot in a Discord where someone asked me one simple question: are you scaling in Edit Mode? Turns out I had been doing it in Object Mode the whole time, which stretches the mesh data instead of moving the verts, so the bevel tool had nothing clean to work with. I switched to tabbing into Edit Mode and scaling there, and the exact same bevel settings on the same mug suddenly looked perfect. Now I catch myself checking that little mode dropdown in the top left before I touch anything, and my models stopped having that squished look. So what was the dumb little thing that took you way too long to figure out when you started?
