My donut render looked like a potato until I fixed the light angle
So I finally got through the beginner donut tutorial and was SO proud, but when I rendered it, the thing looked like a lumpy potato. Spent like 2 hours messing with the material settings and nothing helped. Then I remembered a tip from a YouTube comment about moving the area light lower and closer to the object. Tried that at like 11pm on Tuesday and suddenly all the bumps and sprinkles showed up like magic. Guess I was lighting it from too high up, so everything just flattened out into shadow. Has anyone else fought with lighting and thought their modeling was the problem instead?
The "lumpy potato" phase is basically a rite of passage for that tutorial. Yeah lighting tricks you hard, mine looked flat as a pancake til I dropped the light way down too.
