Appreciation post: My local game store's trivia night got way more competitive this year.

Was super casual before. Now folks are prepping like it's a tournament.

That sounds like an improvement to me. A more competitive crowd raises the overall quality of play. The event probably got more interesting, not worse.

Disagree completely, @patriciabaker. More competition can ruin the FUN for regular folks trying to enjoy the game. It puts too much pressure on players, making every move feel like life or death. That stress kills the casual vibe that makes events fun to begin with. You end up with a tense atmosphere where only the top players shine, and everyone else just feels left out. Honestly, that sounds like a worse time for both players and fans.

Patriciabaker, saying more competition 'raises the quality' misses how the vibe changes. As @jake_ellis43 noted, that pressure can push out casual players. The event might get better for some but worse for the regular crowd.
