Rant: heavy games are not smarter games and I'm tired of pretending they are
Last Friday at our meetup in Cleveland I watched four people spend 40 minutes on a rulebook for a game with a 6 page setup sheet, and two of them quit before turn 3. Meanwhile the table next to us played a 30 minute card game and laughed the whole time. I keep hearing that light games are just filler and the real players graduate to 4 hour euros. I've played both for about 8 months now and the deep ones mostly give me more downtime between turns, not more fun. A game can be simple and still give you tough calls, and a 200 piece rulebook does not make the choices any sharper. What's the lightest game in your shelf that still makes you think hard about your move?
