The day I realized I was shuffling commander decks wrong for 8 years

I got into commander in 2016 and always just did the standard riffle shuffle on my deck box lid. Last month a buddy at the shop in Austin watched me and asked why I never pile shuffled to break up mana clumps. I laughed it off but honestly I never even thought about it. So I tried a proper 7 pile shuffle with 99 cards, took maybe 4 minutes, and the first hand I drew had 3 lands instead of the usual 1 or 6. I did it two more games and the difference was night and day, no more turns where I sat there with nothing but mana dorks. Now I do a mix of pile and mash shuffles before every game. Has anyone else gone years without realizing a basic physical habit was messing with their draws?
