The guy at my Tuesday game night in Michigan called my Catan strategy 'cowardly' and now I can't stop thinking about it
He was sitting right across from me, at a table in a Kalamazoo library room, and he said it loud enough that the other four players looked up. I had just built a third settlement on the coast instead of trading sheep, and he called it 'hiding in a corner.' Half the table laughed, and I went home feeling weird about a board game.
Now here's the split. One side says you play to win, period, and turtling is a legit path to 10 points. Other side says the whole point of game night is to mix it up with people, and coasting along solo is a jerk move.
So which is it? Was he right to call me out, or was that just bad table manners?
