After 12 years of hosting, I finally banned page-by-page reading
My old group read every chapter aloud like we were in second grade, and it took us 4 months to get through one novel. I switched us to reading 3 chapters before each meeting, then we just talk about what stuck out, and now we finish a book every 6 weeks. Has anyone else dumped the old-school method for a faster format, or am I the only one who got sick of listening to other people stumble over names?
Did you find people actually did the reading, or did you get the whole "I forgot" excuse every week? We tried that with my last group and half the time nobody finished the chapters, so we just sat there awkwardly until someone spoiled the ending. Just curious if you had to kick anyone out or make a rule about it.
