Appreciation post: the wildest book club meeting I ever hosted

Last Tuesday my book club spent 40 minutes just arguing about whether the narrator was reliable or just a liar, and two people almost walked out over it. One lady kept quoting page 112 to prove her point with a highlighter in hand, it was pure chaos. Has anyone else had a debate get that personal about a fictional character?

Honestly I think that narrator was telling the truth the whole time and people just want to be clever by calling everything unreliable. The highlighter lady was probably right, that page 112 quote lines up with earlier details most folks missed. We get so caught up in guessing games that we forget sometimes a story is just a story.
