Rant: stop telling new binders to press their signatures overnight, it hurt my spines for 6 months
Everyone parrots that you need to press folded signatures under weight overnight, but I had a copy of a 1940s bookbinding pamphlet from a library sale in Omaha that said 20 minutes is plenty and more time just flattens the fold. I pressed a 300 page text block for 12 hours like an idiot and the paper got so compacted that my sewing holes kept closing up on me. Now I do 30 minutes max and my spines open way better. Has anyone else noticed longer pressing actually makes the paper fight the needle?
