Showerthought: people keep buying variegated monsteras online and then frying them on a south sill in 3 days
I keep seeing pics in the plant groups of brand new variegated monsteras with crispy white patches, and 9 times out of 10 the person says it sat in direct afternoon sun. I picked up a small one in April, put it by a west window, and those white spots went brown and dry within about 5 days. Turns out the white parts have no chlorophyll, so they sunburn way faster than the green, and the seller's care card didn't say a word about it. Mine is now behind a sheer curtain in an east window and the new leaf came out clean last week. Has anyone else had a variegated plant scorch even in what you thought was gentle light?
