Hot take: my thrift store lamp rewiring went sideways and I learned to test before I plug in
Picked up a brass lamp at the Goodwill on Elm for $6 last Saturday, felt like a total score for my desk setup. Got it home, swapped the old cord for a $4 kit from the hardware store, and figured I was done in 20 minutes. Plugged it in and nothing, just a dead socket after all that work. Turned out the switch itself was shot, so I was out $10 total and two hours on a lamp that still doesn't work. Now I test every thrifted lamp with a multimeter before I even buy it, which I should've done from the start. Has anyone else had a thrift find fight back like this, and what's your go-to check before you buy?
