Saw a lady at the Sacramento Goodwill tag a $3 lamp as 'vintage' and flip it for $45 online, and I honestly can't decide if that's genius or grimy
So I'm standing in the lamp aisle at the Goodwill on Folsom Blvd about two Saturdays back, right? This woman walks up, picks up this ugly brass lamp, squints at it, and I swear she takes out her phone and looks up sold listings. Then she peels the $3 sticker off and tells the cashier it's missing a price so they ring it up as $1.99. Cool, whatever.
Two days later I see the exact same lamp on my local buy/sell group for $45. Same little ding on the base and everything. She called it 'mid century brass, rare find.'
Here's my thing. Part of me is like, good for her, that's hustling. The other part is like, you're not adding any value, you're just marking stuff up for people who don't know better yet. I flip stuff too but I at least clean it and rewire it and say what it actually is.
Where do you all draw the line? Is flipping that fast with no work just smart, or am I being a hater?
