The free wine tasting that rewired my thrift store eye

Last Saturday I hit this fancy tasting room downtown, just to get a buzz without paying bar prices. The host mentioned they redo their decor every season and sell the old stuff for pennies. Walked out with a brass table lamp for $4 that I saw listed online for $90, and now I ask every boutique and coffee shop if they have castoffs. Anyone else score something nice by just asking a business what they're tossing?
