I swore frozen veggies were a rip off until my sister showed me her grocery receipt from Rochester
Three weeks ago my sister came to visit from Rochester and left her grocery receipt on my kitchen counter, and I noticed she paid $1.29 for a bag of frozen broccoli that would've cost me $3.50 fresh. I always figured frozen was marked up junk food, but she pointed out it doesn't rot in the crisper drawer like the fresh stuff I keep throwing out (I tossed about $40 worth of slimy produce in the trash just that month). So now I'm wondering, what's the one frozen item you keep in the freezer that saves you the most cash?
Frozen spinach is the one for me, hands down. I used to buy those big tubs of fresh spinach and watch half of it turn to slime before I ever touched it, which is basically throwing money straight in the trash. Now I grab the frozen bricks for like a dollar and toss a handful into eggs, soups, pasta, whatever, and it lasts for months without going bad. The key is you can't treat it like fresh greens in a salad, but for cooking it works the same and honestly tastes fine once it's mixed into stuff. Once you start watching what actually gets eaten versus what gets pitched, the freezer aisle stops looking like a scam.
