TIL a can of black beans costs less than a candy bar and I've been sleeping on it
I was standing in the grocery store on Monday looking at the price tags and a can of store brand black beans was 89 cents while the candy bar next to it was a buck fifty. That one detail kind of broke my brain about how I've been thinking about cheap food. I've been dumping a can into rice with some cumin and hot sauce and it feeds me for like two days. What's the one cheap thing you buy that makes you feel like you're cheating the system?
The "broke my brain" part is real. Something about seeing the actual numbers side by side just rewires how you think about food. I had the same moment with a bag of dry lentils a while back, like two bucks for something that lasted a week and a half of lunches. The fact that the cheap stuff is usually the healthier stuff too makes it feel even more like a cheat code.
