Warning: the dried beans vs canned beans debate is costing people way more than they think
I keep seeing people in here say dried beans are always the cheaper move and canned beans are a ripoff, and I get why it sounds true. A 1 pound bag of dried pinto beans runs about $1.50 at my Kroger in Fort Wayne and gives you roughly 6 cups cooked, so yeah, on paper it looks like a steal. But here is where that math falls apart for me. Last month I timed myself, and soaking overnight plus an hour and a half on the stove plus cleanup ate about 2 hours of my Sunday, and I only got 4 cups because I burned the bottom of one batch. Canned beans at $1 a can gave me the same amount for maybe $2.50 and 5 minutes of opening cans. So is the dried bean crowd actually saving money, or are they just trading time for pennies and not counting it? I want to hear both sides here because I flip back and forth every payday.
