I finally tracked every dollar for 30 days and the difference in my grocery spending shocked me
I kept a spreadsheet from March 1 to March 30 and wrote down every single purchase, even the $1.50 gas station coffee. Groceries came out to $612 for the month. Last month I did the same thing and it was $428. The gap was all in little trips to the store on my way home from work, usually 3 or 4 times a week, grabbing stuff I did not plan for. Once I saw that number I stopped the quick stops cold. Now I do one big run on Sunday with a list and I am back down under $450. That is $160 a month I was just handing over without thinking. Does anyone else keep a running total like this, or do you just track the big bills and let the small stuff slide?
